B&V works at the interface of structural analysis, computational planning and architectural design. By combining diverse professional backgrounds and skills in engineering, parametric design and architecture, B&V strives to provide integrated design solutions that are technologically advanced, architecturally compelling and environmentally conscious.

We draw inspiration from natural forms and phenomena to create novel structures and spaces that align engineering criteria, material performance and fabrication methods.

The results strive for advanced constructions that are lightweight, efficient and generous, and always responsive to environment.

With a holistic perspective on each project, we offer our clients coherent and integrated design solutions. Our services include computational concept design, structural analysis and structural design, form-finding and optimization, as well as digital fabrication of complex projects. We believe in the intelligent interplay of engineering and architecture in order to support our clients in bringing better buildings to the world.

Founders

Matthias Beckh

Matthias studied structural engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). After his diploma in 1999, he moved to New York City where he worked for Robert Silman Associates and Guy Nordenson and Associates. During this period, he worked on projects like Villa NM (UN Studio), New York's New Museum (SANAA), Beijing Looped Hybrid (Steven Holl) and the extension of the museum of modern art (Yoshio Taniguchi).

From 2013 until 2018, he worked for the British engineering firm BuroHappold and led the branch in Munich. His key projects include the structural design of

the Munich wholesale market (Ackermann Architekten), the museum of the 20 th century in Berlin (Herzog de Meuron) or the winning scheme for the multi-functional sports arena in Munich's Olympic Park (3XN architects). Matthias Beckh has taught at TU Munich, ETH Zürich, and HfT Stuttgart.

He is professor for structural design at the faculty of architecture at TU Dresden. His main interests are located at the interface between architecture and structural engineering including integrated multi-disciplinary design approaches, lightweight structures, as well as digitally driven form-finding techniques.

Founders

Simon Vorhammer

Simon received his diploma degree in Architecture from TU Munich in 2010.

He has since worked in Germany, the UK and Australia with a number of internationally recognised practices including Foster and Partners London, Cheil Germany, LAVA Sydney and AR-MA. Major project experience includes the Samsung Pavilion for the Yeosu EXPO 2012, the 2014 Fugitive Structures Pavilion ‘Trifolium’, the HSBC Centre Sydney, the Optus Stadium in Perth, 9 Towers Road and the Blitz Music Club in Munich.

Simon has taught and held workshops at TU Munich, University of Sydney, University of Queensland, University of Applied Sciences Biberach and University of Applied Sciences Munich.

Drawing from a rich understanding in digital design and fabrication processes, Simon's work is characterized by an integrative approach towards design, engineering, material performance and manufacturing.
